Hunter in US murder rampage says he was shot at first

Link

This is an alarming article. What is not printed in this article though, is the fact that this man, who did the killing, has been arrested for gun related violence before, obviously never escalating to this level. Still, what kind of show are we running here. Are we just handing out guns and waiting for people to die. For those of you out there who do not believe gun control is a valid issue, I ask you, why did any of these men deserve to have a gun?

If he was arrested and convicted of a gun-related crime, his right to carry a firearm should already have been revoked under current law.

I ask you, why did any of these men deserve to have a gun?

The hunters who got shot were law abiding citizens, that's why they deserved to have guns.  The Laoation guy had prior arrests for firearm related incidents, he was the one who shouldn't have had the gun.  He was on private property, he had no business being there, and he was asked to leave (although I think it was more a question of being told to get the fuck out).  Of course this idiot's going to say he got shot at first, but that still doesn't explain why he shot 6 people dead.  He could have just stopped the threat on his life and left it at that, but he carried on and he murdered 5 other people and wounded a few more...with an assault rifle, no less.

I'm all about gun control, but we need to properly enforce the laws we have now, not go about creating new ones.

Exaclty, dharmagrl.

Again reiterating dhrmagrls' point.

We cannot punish everyone because of the misdeeds of a few. If you would like more information about why I believe in the second amendment, please click here

This is also what I believe. I just don't want to single out the guy. Did they shoot at him first? I don't know. That is why I included them as well.

An interesting article on the SKS rifle appears at: http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/5100076.html

"John Monson, owner of Bill's Gun Shop and Range in Robbinsdale, regularly stocks "two or three" SKS semiautomatic rifles of the kind authorities said Chai Soua Vang of St. Paul used to kill six people and wound two others.

The weapon is often misrepresented as an "assault" rifle, Monson said, but the popular "sporterized," or hunting, version sold by Monson and used by some deer hunters was not covered by the federal assault weapons ban that recently expired."

"In 1989, President George H.W. Bush, in a presidential order, banned the import of SKS rifles from China following a mass shooting with an assault rifle in Stockton, Calif. Since then, SKS rifles manufactured in Russia and Yugoslovia have been imported into the United States."

So, the gun was legal because it presumably was manufactured outside of China.

If they did.....well, the crime scene evidence will show if they did or not.

Here's a thought, though......how come the Laoatian guy didn't get shot?  There were what, 8 or 9 hunters around, all armed....and not one of them managed to hit him?  Doesn't sound right to me.

It doesn't really matter if it sounds right to you.

To validate my point, that's why I included them. He said they shot first so, to not include them, at this point in time, would be wrong.

The assault weapons ban only prehibited the manufacture of assault weapons (no matter what type) but not the sale of those weapons. Before the so called ban expired, anyone could still purchase an assault weapon.

I personally love to deer hunt with an SKS, the quantity of bullets over the quality of the shot being my prime motive. I love to grill a big thick deer steak and spit out the bullet(s) afterward. Clearly this man was nuts to begin with. Gun control or not, cheeseheads have problems. Come on, have you seen the foam things on their heads during football games? Granted, I've shot at hunters also, but they were bow hunters and they were trespassing. And I intentionally missed, so don't call me a bad shot.

Yeah, what is up with that? Thanks for bringing a little humor. Sometimes we all are guilty of taking ourselves too seriously.

Here's an excerpt from the MSNBC news article on this:

Vang said he removed the scope from his rifle and began firing, continuing to shoot as the group scattered. He said one of the victims, Joey Crotteau, tried to run away, but Vang chased him, got within 20 feet and shot him in the back. Crotteau, 20, was killed. Willers was wounded and was listed in fair condition Tuesday.

Vang said as he began to run, an ATV with two people drove past and he fired three or four times, causing both people to fall off the machine. He said that he looked up the trail, saw that one of the men was standing, yelled, “You’re not dead yet?” and fired one more shot in the man’s direction. He said he did not know if he hit the man or not./

They also mention that there was one gun between the 8 hunters who showed up on ATV's to escort this man off the private property.

I have to ask the question, though.....why did it take 8 grown men to tell someone that he was on private land and to bugger off?

All know is, yer gonna have to pry my gun from my cold, dead hands...right after my hunting incident. It's the American way, dammit!
on Nov 24, 2004
As the story came I heard that the asian man was in full camo.....
why? If you know anything about deer hunting you wear Blaze orange
for safety from other hunters. In this case he was hunting man!
Lock him up.

Rat,
I think you may have overreacted, taking dharma's point the wrong way...

I'm no fan of guns, but that aside, this guy was obviously crazed.

I thought so too.....but that's par for the course.
