The night innocently enough started with a case of beer, a jug of wine and a few good friends enjoying eachothers long awaited company. As the brews flowed smoothly down our throats, the wine was the chaser, and the tension in the air grew heavy. I had seen it coming for some time now. The conversation shiftly sharply as he banged his head against the nightstand that holds the television. Intentionaly of course. There was no harm intended and no harm done. It was all just a good time. A ro...
I work at a home with adults that have physical and mental developmental disabailities. Today during a routine staff meeting the topic of voting was brought up and I was astonished to hear that out of 40 or so residents, only 12 have the right to vote. As the meeting slowly rolled on, and I drifted farthe into a sleepy state, this really started bugging me. As anyone who has ever been friends with people of similar nature know, although by typical standards the clients are labeled as MR, they...
What is the meaning of "separation of church and state?" Is it like most other things and truly can't be defined simply because of the way one interprets concepts differently? Separation of church and state to me is simply defined as politics plus religion equals disater. People speak of Lieberman as a Jew or Bush as a Christian and I simply wonder what difference does it make. Do I honestly want somebody making decisions that effect my life with some other "power" guiding the outcome of eac...
About three weeks ago my father was laid off from a company which he had worked at for 26 years. The reason for him being fired was never truly given to him in a straight forward way though they insisted he had done nothing wrong and it was strictly a business decision. Along with my dad, an electrician who is 59 years old and had perfect attendance, and 18 janitors, some of which have developmental disabilities. All as a business decision. My father ran the maintenance department. At ...
As I look around this site more and more it is very apparent who is left and who is right. What I do not understand is why many people to the right believe that having liberal views is unpatriotic. It just makes no sense to me. I love America. I like John Kerry and I believe Clinton was the best president we have had in recent times. I don't agree with President Bush's views, but does that make me hate America. How is it any different for someone who does not agree with a democrats view? That...
As I sit back and sip on the second beer on the night, I realize how much in fact I love this beverage. Beer has never let me down. Sure enough, it even really hasn't ever made me make a fool of myself. That's what the bottom of a bottle of whiskey is for. It took me a while to take a liking to beer. In my younger (and of course more wiser years) I often seemed to prefer a good night of binge drinking of a hard liquor of sorts. Beer had never tasted all that good to me. But for the mos...
It all happened less than a week ago today. I innocently enough was given a ticket to see the President of the United States of America speak at a political function in the neighboring town of mine. Although I agree with none of Mr. Bush's policies, I politely accepted the ticket and set out to attend a Republican function. Before ever even entering the premises where the President was going to speak I was politlely asked to lift up my shirt and reveal the shirt that was underneath it. Baffle...
