Hunter in US murder rampage says he was shot at first

Link

This is an alarming article. What is not printed in this article though, is the fact that this man, who did the killing, has been arrested for gun related violence before, obviously never escalating to this level. Still, what kind of show are we running here. Are we just handing out guns and waiting for people to die. For those of you out there who do not believe gun control is a valid issue, I ask you, why did any of these men deserve to have a gun?

why did it take 8 grown men to tell someone that he was on private land and to bugger off?

Well, first of all, not all of them were necessarily men; at least one of the victims was a 27-year-old woman who was with her father (also now deceased, I think).
Secondly, hunting can be a surprisingly social activity. Going in a group of 8 is somewhat uncommon, but having 3, 4 or 5 people in your group is quite normal. So a group of people coming back to their blind and finding a squatter is not an improbable scenario.

Here's a thought, though......how come the Laoatian guy didn't get shot? There were what, 8 or 9 hunters around, all armed....and not one of them managed to hit him? Doesn't sound right to me.

Ya might want to know when most people are being shot at they kinda freeze and freak...... being shot at is way different than shooting a deer.

They were NOT all armed. As Dharmagrl pointed out, the article mentions that at the time, the 8 hunters had all of ONE gun between them.

There were 2 or 3 that came across the blind, then they radio'd the others to tell them what was up. They called for back up.

Have you been shot at?  I have.  I didn't freeze, nor did I freak.

Voodoo
Granted, I've shot at hunters also, but they were bow hunters and they were trespassing. And I intentionally missed, so don't call me a bad shot.

Hehe. That's the attitude!

Dirty
All know is, yer gonna have to pry my gun from my cold, dead hands...right after my hunting incident. It's the American way, dammit!

You're a bad, bad, sarcastic man, dirty. Funny, though.

Yeah. My uncles, dad, grandpa, and some grandkids all go together each year. Now, as more and more grandkids become anti-gun, the group is shrinking, but for a while, there must have been 10-15 of them. Quite the socialization experience, I imagine.

Ha! I doubt that!  Your reaction would have been correct....that's what I did.
