Embrace it!

Blacking out! Just one of the finer parts of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. To some it may be a problem, but I say embrace it. A wiser man that myself once said, "If it happens that you do blackout, it is probably better that you don't remember anyway. It doesn't really matter either, because your friends will always tell you what happened." Now if that isn't Zen like, I don't know what is.

Blacking out should never be compared to passing out. They are far different from eachother. Passing out means the party has ended for you. Blacking out, on the other hand, probably means that the party is just starting. An experienced drinker, regardless of age, sex, creed, and all that other non-sense, has blacked out at one time or another, myself included. That got me to wondering what exactly is this marvelous treat that visits from time to time.

Acocording to alcoholinfo.com a blackout is "a period of amnesia during which the person is actively engaged in behaviors (e.g., walking, talking) but the brain is unable to form new memories for the events, leaving the person unable to recall the events once they are no longer intoxicated." The part I would like to focus on is leaving the person unable to recall the events once they are no longer intoxicated. A common misconception with blacking out is that the person was unable to know what they were doing at the time that it happened. That is plain mumble-jumble. At the time a blackout occurs, the person is very aware of what is going on around them and what they are doing which brings me to my point. People frown on blackouts, but why? Embrace them, chances are, you are doing something that you want to do but are just to pussy to do with out having alcohol to blame your actions on. Anybody who uses the excuse of, "Oh, I did that, I'm sorry, I was really wasted", isn't a true boozer. But anyway, the next time you happen to consume to much fire water, and wake up thinking that more happened than you can recall, don't be ashamed, be proud that you probably did something you've been longing to do for a while. But remember, always call your friends to find out exactly what it was. Drink up!
